Between these two films, there are similar and difference. First let talk about the similarity between these two. As I had seemed, both of them has the same background. In The Joy Luck Club, the four mothers were living in a same culture and situation same as the main character in Raise the Red Lantern. Some of them were living in a poor family. However, they were living in the situation that women had less power than men. And they had no choices to choose a marriage what they want to. Some married to a rich family because of poor situation. No matter how they got married in that time, but as I had seemed they had same ending. It was they were not happy in their marriage. And this affected their whole life, accept the view of life.
What do you think about Asian and Asian American women? What the life style between now and past for Asian women?

Since these two films were come from the same culture, but between them have differences. The women in The Joy Luck Club, they did suffer a lot and were living in a hard situation. However, they after they came to the United States, they had a new marriage in a new situation. They couldn’t forget their past but at least they could get out the hard time and situation from their past. In other hand, the main character in Raise The Red Lantern was not.
I love this film, since it shows the old marriage in China and women right in the family!!
In these two films, it focus on mamen. No matter how they got married, married to a rich family or others. But they still had a bad marriage and unhappy lives.
